Eel Pie Island is, as the name suggests, an island situated on the river Thames tideway by Twickenham.
Twice yearly the resident artists in the island open their studios to the public.
A ramshackle boatyard is part of the charm of the island with old bits of machinery framing the small artists’ studios along a colourful path.
Back in the 50s and 60s the island was a Mecca for rock and R&B groups. Some went to great fame: Long John Baldry’s Hoochie Coochie Men (including Rod Stewart), Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, David Bowie, Alexis Korner, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers (featuring Eric Clapton), George Melly, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Tridents (featuring Jeff Beck), The Who, The Yardbirds, etc. etc.
Brilliant.
Thank you, Rabirius…
